Consortium programs offer world of experience to students
Chris Niesen is one of 25 students from here and other Tennessee Board of Regents schools who took part this summer in a three-week study abroad program to South Africa. That trip, along with eight other study abroad opportunities, was made possible by the Tennessee Consortium for International Studies, whose headquarters are at the College. Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants awards scholarship to Pellissippi State graduate
Jonathan Weaver has earned a $1,100 scholarship from the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants. Weaver graduated this spring with a business transfer degree, concentrating in accounting, He is continuing on at the University of Tennessee, and if history is any indicator, he will use his time there to help others.

If you haven’t heard of country artist Laura Bryna yet, you’ll soon get an opportunity. One of the newest singing sensations to come out of Nashville, Bryna will be the Friday headliner at the 2008 Pellissippi State Hot Air Balloon Festival. Professional troupe ‘clowns around’ at balloon fest
For 15 years, Debbie Debuty and her alter ego, Daisy the Clown, have been entertaining children of all ages. On September 26-27, Debuty and her troupe—clowns with names like Bubbles, Chumumba and Speedy—will continue that tradition at the balloon festival. (more)
(Hula) hoop dancing offers energized entertainment
Hoop dancing has come to K-town. If you aren’t a child of the ’50s, you may not know the term, but “hoop dancing” is the new name for hula-hooping. The fad started circling its way back into the American cultural consciousness in the mid-1990s. Now it’s one of the attractions at this year’s balloon festival. (more)

Imagine yourself on TV’s “Dancing with the Stars,” gliding and sliding around the dance floor like ice skater Kristi Yamaguchi or football great Emmitt Smith. Now do a quick reality check. Country music drives Homer Hart
As finance manager for a local auto dealership, Homer Hart spends his days working with customers wanting to buy a car or truck. But when he’s not crunching the numbers, the Knoxville native puts on a cowboy hat, grabs his guitar and heads for a stage to sing and play country music that always “comes from the heart.” (more)
