Original ‘Moonshine Symphony’ tomorrow night
“The Moonshine Symphony” will explode with all things Southern at this year’s Small Instrumental Ensembles Concert.
The free concert is the third in a series of eight offered by the Music program this academic year. The event is November 18 at 7 p.m. in the Clayton Performing Arts Center.
The symphony, an original composition by Music instructor David Slack, will be performed by the Small Instrumental Ensemble. The piece, which includes snippets of “Rocky Top” and the theme from “Green Acres,” should evoke emotions of pride and memories of childhood for many audience members.
But if your taste isn’t Southern, don’t worry. The three participating student ensembles are guaranteed to satisfy every musical taste.
“The Brass Ensemble, the Guitar Ensemble and the Small Instrumental Ensemble will provide the perfect blend for a relaxing evening, with a variety of styles and musical offerings from classical settings to music celebrating local regional heritage,” said Bill Brewer, Music program coordinator.
“We are performing Mozart and ending with ‘Purple Haze’ by Jimi Hendrix,” said Larry Vincent, Music instructor and director of the Guitar Ensemble.
Tom Lundberg, Music instructor and director of the Brass Ensemble, says concert-goers can anticipate music from around the world. “Csardas,” a famous arrangement of gypsy music, will be just one international highlight.
Donations will be accepted at the door and go to the Pellissippi State Foundation for Music scholarships.
The next concert is the Holiday Spectacular, December 4 at 6 and 8 p.m. For more information, contact Bill Brewer at 694-6701.
