November 24: Second of three-part ‘Paradox of Affluence’ video lecture series
The second lecture of “ The Paradox of Affluence: Choices, Challenges, and Consequences,” a series of video presentations by nationally known speakers, will be shown at Pellissippi State November 24. The third will air December 1.
The series is sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa, the academic honor society of community colleges.
The video presentations are free and open to the public. The two remaining lectures take place 6:15-8:15 p.m. in the Goins Auditorium. An audience discussion follows each. The first lecture, “Pathways of Poverty Through Green Collar Jobs: The Role of Scholarship in Improving Quality of Life for Urban Residents,” aired November 10.
The November 24 presentation is “The Geography of Bliss.” Eric Weiner, a veteran foreign correspondent who writes for National Public Radio’s Web site, is the featured video speaker .
“ Archaeological Evidence for the Origins of Affluence,” the final video lecture, will be shown December 1 . Michael Galaty, associate professor of anthropology at Millsaps College , is the presenter.
