Digital Photojournalism - A real world approach to visual storytelling with contemporary technology - May 14-19th, 2007

About

Bagwell Center For Media and Art - Firstlight Academic WorkshopsPellissippi State Technical Community College is pleased to host the Firstlight Collegiate Workshop at the Bagwell Center for Media Technology, May 14-19. In this 5-day digital photojournalism experience you will immerse yourself in assignments, nurture your photographic instincts, and develop a digital workflow of shooting, editing, and layout for the ultimate experience in visual storytelling.

A typical day at the workshop begins with participants surveying, studying, and shooting photography assignments focusing on East Tennessee scenes and culture. Photographers then return to workshop headquarters to download images and participate in one-on-one edit and critique sessions with one of the professionally renowned photography instructors. Throughout the week students will have the experience of edit sessions with each instructor and limited enrollment ensures each participant will have plenty of access to and personal instruction from the instructors.

Workshop afternoons are filled with lectures and demonstrations geared to the students’ specific needs, as well as prep and explore time for the next assignment when students head back out to take advantage of the “golden-hour” of photography. In the evening, the camaraderie that Firstlight is famous for kicks in when instructors host projection sessions and critiques highlighting the day’s work.

The final night of the workshop culminates in a gallery exhibit displaying each student’s best work. Held at the workshop headquarters, photographers, in the company of friends and the locals you spent the week photographing, will enjoy refreshments, friendship, and a final projection show representing the week’s images.

Bring your own equipment, or use one of the Olympus E1 digital SLR outfits available for your use at the workshop.
